Good lay down?

Heres the scenario: $.10/$.25 NLH. I'm in MP+1 and dealt QQ. Villain raises the pot to $.85 from UTG+1 (i don't know what it's called), i re-raise to 2.5, he re-re-raises to 5.5. I call and flop comes A-x-x rainbow. He bets $5 into me and I fold. As I'm debating whether or not I was good in the hand, he shows JJ. Needless to say, a lot of curse words came out of my mouth.

My question is this: was it a good lay down? Should I have even seen the flop? I knew he had a premium hand. My read on him was AA, KK, or AK. I'm still learning the game and would love comments.

I think it's the proper lay down. I like the aggression pre-flop with the re-raise and don't really have a problem with anything you did in this hand. Being able to lay a hand down is important and you had no reason to believe you were ahead after he 3-bet.

Speaking as the "villian" in this scenario, I would also have to say it was the right lay down. Having presented with a very tight table image all night, and being that I raised the same amount with AA and KK (the table folded), I could very easily have had a monster. I also had to guess that you had QQ or lower because you didn't 4-pop me preflop and didn't insta-raise my post flop bet. The only way I beat you in this hand was position. If you were first to act, you probably would've run me out of the pot. Good fold, and good luck!!

I like the call pre, especially with position.

Villain leads on the flop for about half the pot. I have found at these stakes the villain doesn't necessarily have a huge hand, so I will either:

1. Smooth call on the flop and if he bets the turn to where I think he has an A or better hand I will let it go, but if its checked to me I can now take the pot with a bet.
2. Re-raise him here on the flop to see if he is scared of that I hit an Ace.
3. Fold, but I really have to believe he has me. I will usually follow 1 when the player is of a looser nature and use 2 when the player is of a tighter nature.

Hope this helps.

I actually like a shove pre-flop most of the time here. Go ahead and get your cash in at these stakes. Post-flop, I like the laydown for sure.
